What is a doula?

Doulas are non-medically trained community care workers who provide physical, emotional, spiritual, & informational support to their clients. Doulas:

  • Provide information about the procedures performed and actions done by your healthcare provider.

  • Help explain your birth plan and advocate for your emotional and physical needs to your care team.

  • Offer physical comfort through activities like massage and focused breathing.

  • Guide and support your family and loved ones.

  • Help with lactation.

What are the benefits of doula care?

People who utilize doula care report:

  • Fewer cesarean births

  • Less anxiety and depression for pregnant people.

  • Less pain-relief medication during labor.

  • Shorter time in labor.

  • Fewer negative childbirth experiences.

  • Better communication between pregnant people and their health care providers.

  • Lower healthcare costs.

Paloma

I offer emotional, physical, and advocacy support to people moving through their reproductive experiences as well as to their families. I completed my training in the Tewa Women United - Yiya Vi Kagingdi Full Spectrum Doula Program. I am currently in the process of meeting my criteria to become a certified doula.  I believe that everyone deserves to be nurtured and cared for and I am passionate about providing holistic postpartum care to birthing people and those navigating a loss or termination of pregnancy.
